Urn, "Fashion the Land," Ireland, c. 2010 Christopher Harrington
Taking a Blog break from my Silver Sale.
This image was taken at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. For "Fashion the Land", I manipulate the picture plane with "Batch" processing in the digital space. This processing includes use of filters, duplication, rotation, contrast, colour adjustments, flipping, filters, and other Photoshop adjustments. This is one from a triptych of Projects making images from landscapes that reckon with a personal response to climate change, land use and abuse, de~naturalisation of our habitats.
Long ago, I had ambitions, like many photographers, to publish in the press and print journals like National Geographic. Early on, I observed that such journals were behind the curve and were not dealing directly enough with the issues of land and water environmental impacts by tendencies of human over~consumption. For me personally, the challenges facing myself as image maker and the geographic were more or less absent in journals depicting consumption of nature. I made the choice to find light and subject matter closer to the source as I saw it which was that part of the natural world peculiar to the human being as collaborator and antagonist in the natural world.
