1989-1993, Leningrad

These photographs date from my "Leningrad Apprenticeship" from 1989-1993. Russian and fine art photography became my second and third languages. My compositions and work style emerged from days spent wandering the Hermitage Art Museum and the streets of a city undergoing a revolutionary transition. This transition was fueled by a restlessness of history that resulted in name changed back to honour the city's founder. In St Petersburg I found the Kolomna region. From 1999-2001 I honed in on the geography and people, the psychology and ideas rooted into Kolomna as a result of collision of shipyards and ballet. See the Kolomna, St Petersburg gallery.
