This is the initial 8 days from a photo-per-day series I started in the middle of November, 1998. 

At the time I wrote a short caption for each image; the first was "Everything begins with an URGE in the middle."  The right-most image (Number "2") began the second week of the project and helps bookend this composite.

I was pursuing drive-by Americana, living just off Route 66.  I made each shot from my car, while driving, leaning out the window.  It was like a puzzle, a game.  I was fixed on spaces and objects that people had taken the time to create and which remained to be navigated.  Reconsidering this project 10 years on, perhaps it was an effort to assemble an inside-outside narrative.
