This project grew largely from observations of Americana exported, soccer/football as global passion, and experiences with race, displacement and migration. This was a collaborative engagement with 11 "players" and some other cast and crew, all recent arrivals to Ireland, many asylum seekers and survivors of torture. For the project, I branded Xisles FC, a fictional football squad of superstar players from the 1970's era of big ideas and big hair. As fleshed out with help of talented young participants, the immersive space generated here engages with humanistic issues within the context of multi-media, pop portraiture.
